Come On Drinking
02:03
|
|||
if you're weary
if you're tired
if you've lonely
feeling blue
come with me to the back room
where I've got a bottle for you
if you're wand'ring
if you're aimless
if you've just
got nothing to do
come along for a round or two
there's liquor a'waiting for you
if you've got friends
but they're missing
and you don't know
where you should be
oh you know there's a beer in my fridge
and you know you can take it from me
if you're ragged
and you're rusty
and your life
has run out of fun
there's no better place for your crying
than straight into a bottle of rum
if your sinning
and your choosing
has you doubting
the things that you've done
then gin's what you ought to be boozing
and believe me I've done a fair sum

Mess I (We) Make
04:46
|
|||
All I want is that the mess I make
Long outlive this life I take
I wanna fuck it up something good
leave a story for the kiddies of the neighborhood
about the one who did the something big
so they grow up tellin of the things I did
and if it hurts a lot then that's okay
as long as the pain lasts longer than a day
because that's how you know it was worthwhile
if the numbness lasts a good long while
then what you did was worth your time
so have another beer and sing a line
for sober stories are never quite true
and neither are tales without some blue
No I won't keep a friend that lies to me
so best to bottom up least two or three
//
All I want is that the mess I make
Long outlive this life I take
I wanna fuck it up something good
leave a story for the kiddies of the neighborhood
about racing cars or sailing ships
not sitting in bars and hitting on chicks
to live a life that takes a map to trace
and die somewhere with a smile on my face
as I think on all that shit I did
and how I shouldn't'a got away with it
and almost always by the end of day
I'd find a place where I could lay
Whether crossing the land in a tiny old car
or staying with a new friend in some place far
from any odd town that I've ever been
there's always a corner to tuck right in
//
All I want is that the mess I make
Long outlive the life I take
I'm gonna fuck it up something good
' leave a story for the kiddies of the neighborhood
Making all the best sort of bad decisions
Cutting back on the inhibitions
If it costs a lot, it ain't worth a damn
Gonna live as real as I think I am
Can be hard to know when to draw that line
But now I think's good as any time
I'm 28 and soon 29
Let's grab this life, turn it on a dime
There's always someone yer gonna disappoint
There's always another shady joint
But the time we got ain't that damn long
Stop running in place and come along
//
All I want is that the mess I make
Long outlive the life I take
I'm gonna fuck it up something good
Leave a story for the kiddies of the neighborhood
So save your pennies and live life cheap
Do it yourself and don't buy meat
Toss your change into a jar you keep
Until you snag a ticket to someplace neat
Meet a friend with a broken guitar
Shares her whiskey from her sticky jar
And take her hand when she says come along
Cuz there's no place you can go that's wrong
That life you don't live of your mighta dids
Ought not be the life you're keeping hid
So wreck it all just to get it done
As long as in that crash you're having fun

A Call to Story
01:55
|
|||
So if you’d like a story, see,
Then come along and walk with me,
For I’ve lived more than one or two-
That I’d delight to share with you.
Some of love and some of fear,
Some I’m sure you’d care to hear,
Some with whimsy, full of gin,
And some with danger creeping in,
Of nights with stars up overhead,
And cloudy days spent all in bed,
Of horizontal evening play,
And weeks of wandering as a stray,
There’s a lewd and lying puppeteer,
And girls whose hearts still beat with cheer,
Despite the hurt that they have known,
From this culture that we condone.
Yes I’ve got a tale of flying food,
And one of driving that’s rather crude,
And many of drugs that I’ve seen done,
And sloppy, stumbling, drunken fun.
There’s stories from the riverside,
And stories that I’d rather hide,
But should you chose to walk along,
Secrets, you’ll learn, before too long-
That is, if you can spark my heart
Which is eager, ready, for a start
For I’ve got love much like my stories-
Neverending, full of glories.
And not a love that I regret,
For each and every love was met,
With whole and open, honest hearts,
And lucky, lovely, honest starts.
So walk in step and hold a hand,
By chance we might upon a band,
That’ll make us dance right in the street-
A story written with our feet.
So if you care to write a story, see,
Then come along and walk with me.
For I’ve lived more than one or two-
And I’d delight to write with you.
